Protect Your Hearing Aids from Sun and Sweat

We all know that protecting our skin from the sun is a must. But what about our ears?

If you’re already a hearing aid user, you know that hot weather can spell disaster for your hearing aids.  But it isn’t the high temperatures that threaten our hearing; it’s the sweat.

Moisture (whether from humidity, sweat, or accidental water exposure) can quickly corrode the batteries and battery contacts that make your hearing aid function. That’s why we always instruct hearing aid users to remove their tech at night and open the battery door. This lets the unit air out and prepare for another day of hard hearing work.

In summer, it’s even more important to protect your hearing aids from moisture. Try wearing a sweatband if you know you’ll be sweating, and consider investing in a dehumidifier for your hearing aids to help keep them dry. It’s an inexpensive way to protect your investment in better hearing. If you decide to go swimming, be sure to remove your hearing aids and put them in a waterproof bag (you can always slip them back in later).

We also encourage all of our hearing aid users to come in for a free clean and check of your devices. This is a great opportunity to get your hearing aids clean and ready for a summer of hearing! Want to learn more about dehumidifiers? We can help you with that, too!
